It all comes down to this: how many tones of blue and green, from the sea to the sky and the lush vegetation, could we count? The answer to that wasn’t easy and we were ready to swear it ranged the thousands during the different hours of the day. As we stepped foot on this idyllic private island and settled in our immaculate villa, we weren’t really sure if we were looking through a window or a frame portraying one of the world’s finest hotel views. Either way, it was just ours to absorb and enjoy.

We spoke to Melita Hunter, Co-Founder and Creative Director of Song Saa, and this is what we found out about this Cambodian piece of heaven.

Song Saa was first imagined and then designed to capture the best from the unspoiled natural surroundings. The effort paid off in the form of magical sunrises, picture-perfect sunsets, and endless ocean views. Every location on the island has its charm and evokes a particular emotion.

November to April is considered our high season, and it is also when the island is blessed with blue skies and magnificent sunsets, the kind that lights up the entire sky in different shades of red, painting a picture that is hard to describe in words. The sunrises are also spectacular and best enjoyed from the ocean villas, allowing one to wake up to the incredible energy and warmth of the sun rising from the horizon, filling one’s soul with serenity and joy. The so-called green season, lasting from May to October, is also a time to be cherished, where one is surrounded by green vegetation that glimmers in the sun. With flora and fauna in full bloom, the verdant Cambodian landscapes genuinely come to life, including picturesque rainbows, which shine brightly almost daily.

Every guest has their favorites – for example, from the Ocean villas, you have the most incredible sunrises, and from the overwater Villas can enjoy idyllic sunsets. Some love the elevation of the Jungle villas, where you have a view of the ocean and vegetation. But from every point of the resort, you can capture something extraordinary, not to mention the evening skies are lit with stars and constellations.

Song Saa Private Island is located in the virtually untouched Cambodian Koh Rong Archipelago, home to some of the globe’s most idyllic beaches. Be prepared for a long yet rewarding journey. To reach this piece of paradise, one may travel either from Sihanoukville international airport (KOS) or Siem Reap International airport (REP), from where, depending on the case, access is enabled by a combination of driving and taking a speedboat ride.
